First flight

I finally made it into the air this morning, June 1, 2010. We woke up yesterday about 6 am planning to fly on Memorial Day, but there were thunderstorms in the area all day. This morning we got up at 7 am to dense fog with about 1/4 mile visibility, but about 10:30 the fog lifted and it became a beautiful day. Thereasa was the ground crew with a handheld radio and the camera. She tried to take videos of the takeoff and landing but none of them turned out well enough to post here. We'll have to ask Carolyn to come out to the airport the next time. She is the professional and we can pretend it is the first flight. Everything went well enough, did not lose or burn anything. It needs to have a wedge added to the rudder as it required rudder pressure even in cruise flight. It took a number of approaches trying to land it since it just will not slow down. It flies quite different from the RV-9A because the constant speed prop on that one slows it down and the fixed pitch on the RV-12 does not slow it down. Airspeed control on landing is so much more important, but it just requires a different technique, which I will learn eventually.
